It may still be winter in my neck of the woods, but I’m already dreaming about and planning my 2025 garden! New flowers in the garden are at the very top of my list for the year!
This year I’m adding a few new friends to the garden… from new flowers to a pivot on my tomato planting and even some new herbs to use around the house! There are a lot of tried and true plants that are coming back this year, but today I wanted to share the newbies being added to my garden for 2025.
This post is focused on the most exciting part… new flowers! I have had a vegetable garden for YEARS, but 2024 was my first year planting a cut flower bed and I am 100% addicted now. Last year I planted Zinnias and Snapdragons, which will be making a repeat appearance this year with new colors and varieties. Here are a few of the new Zinnias and Snapdragons that will be added:
These are the ones I’m most excited about. The Ballerina Zinnias from Johnny’s Seeds. STUNNING! Last year I had all dark colors, so I’m adding in some really elegant and soft varieties this year to mix up my bouquets.
These are really beautiful as well – The Queeny Lemon Peach Zinnias from Johnny’s Seeds. This variety has a mix of fully double, semidouble, and a small percentage of single flowers. I can’t wait to have these in the garden!
One more from Johnny’s, the Oklahoma Salmon Zinnias. Beautiful light pinky salmon coloring on really full blooms.
You can find just about any color of Zinnia’s you want all over the place. They are SUCH an easy flower to grow, I highly recommend them to any one getting started with growing cut flower! Here are some really beautiful options.
First up from from Johnny’s, the Cannes Mix II-III. To be honest, I didn’t love the variety of snapdragons that I had last year. This year I definitely picked more interesting colors and this mix looks like it is going to be STUNNING!
This color was too unique for me to skip. The Cannes Orange II-III from Johnny’s. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen Snapdragons this color, so I am excited to add them to our garden!
Last, but not least, the Johnny’s Early Sunrise Mix. These are definitely going to add beautiful height and color to all of my bouquets this summer!
Next up, all of the truly new flowers in the garden for 2025!
These are super unique, double bloom Cosmos and I added to cart immediately. Double Click Snow Puff from Johnny’s. Really excited to see how these bloom!
On the more delicate side, the Afternoon White Cosmos from Johnny’s. They claim to have a really strong stem and wide blooms, so these should be really great additions to bouquets.
To add a little color I threw in the Cupcakes Blush, also from Johnny’s. The description won me over – “The light-colored, finely pleated blooms float above the foliage, reminding us of Degas’ paintings of ballerinas.”
You can find a TON of beautiful Cosmos here as well!
I have always been a fan of poppies, but have never attempted to grow them on my own. I found a couple of great looking flowers from Botanical Interests and am looking forward to trying my hand at growing these beauties this year! I’m going to test out a few different ways to grow these, including freezing them in cubes with soil and water for a few weeks before planting for cold stratification. Fingers crossed I have loads of beautiful poppies this summer! Here are some really pretty Poppy options!
This Flamingo Feather Celosia looks like it’s quite possibly the most beautiful bouquet filler to ever exist! I’m wanting to fill in a few places around our yard and this was my number one pick.
I knew that Strawflower was on my list for this year, but I was blown away by how beautiful this King Sized Salmon Strawflower from Johnny’s was. These flowers are great in bouquets AND are really great for dried flowers. Here are a few more Strawflower varieties as I know the King Sized Salmon flowers sell fast!
We are going to create a border in front of the fence in our yard and this Bachelor’s Button mix is going to add some great height for us. These are super drought tolerant and require very little attention, which is music to my ears! They also attract pollinators, which is ALWAYS a good thing. Here are some amazing Bachelor’s Button options.
This is another one that is super low-maintenance, the Cupid’s Dart from Snake River Seed Cooperative. I love the color of these flowers and these will be a great addition to our fence border in the yard this year.
I will have a full cottage garden pulled together one of these days, just getting the first round set up this year. I’ll be sharing more on those plans in the coming weeks… super excited about the vision that I have for our backyard! Follow along here and on Instagram as we build everything out! If you are curious about why I am adding these new flowers to in the garden this year, see my post regarding what I wish I had done differently in my first flower planting season!
